The quilt tops are 100% cotton. Many are reversible because I just don't see much sense in going through all the trouble to design a quilt and then simply add a muslin backing. For warmer climates, I recommend a cotton backing and for colder climates, a soft flannel backing is cozier.
Many of the pictures you see here are of the quilt top only because I like to give the new owner their choice of non-allergenic polyester batting or cotton batting. The poly batting is a bit fluffier and only a bit warmer. The cotton batting (which I personally prefer) is more traditional and has a lovely natural drape.
Some quilting is done by machine and some by hand. The pattern usually dictates which technique is best. The fabrics are designer quality. I shop carefully for quality fabrics, threads and batting, regardless of price, because I still believe a quilt should last for many generations!
Fabrics are prewashed to prevent future fading and shrinkage. Small soiled spots can be cleaned with a laundry stick. If a quilt is damaged, it can often be repaired. Worn bindings can be replaced too.
I'm proud to say that everyone who has gotten one of my quilts, has come back for at least one more! I cannot imagine a nicer compliment. They make the most thoughtful and practical gifts and everyone seems to want to share them with friends and family members.
Baby/toddler gifts never seem to be outgrown. At about the age of 5 or 6, they make great wall hangings and then when the child is older, the quilt can be washed and packed (not in plastic) for the next generation. Wrapped in a cotton sheet works best or you may use acid-free tissue paper.
I am having a problem photographing them because, well...I'm not a good photographer...so the colors of the completed quilts are not showing up very well in my pictures.
